Sharks and ladders

Cherise, Whitney, Alfred, Shannon and I made a game up like snakes and ladders but the name is Sharks and ladders.

We drew the grid on a big piece of paper
We drew sharks, fish and jellyfish on the grid
We wrote numbers from 1-100
We coloured the game board
We made clue cards for the game

This is for our inquiry presentation on Thursday for our school and parents to see.

tortoises.

Giant tortoises are from Galapagos island and some come from india
tortoises are very big no one knows how the first tortoise came to live on the galapagos island Tortoises are magnificent creatures even when they are tiny little things and contrary to what most people think, when a tortoise wants to put a spurt on, they can move pretty fast.

It's important to find out everything about the species before you get a tortoise and then to set up the environment to suit them, remembering to invest in the correct lighting system that gives off natural light so you avoid any health problems. Tortoises also like to hibernate so it's vital to find out all about this process and then not to disturb your pet when they do go into hibernation, and then be ready for when
they wake up again.

Argument writing about the sea

Rubbish does not belong in the sea

When people are at the beach and eat their food, they should not throw their rubbish in the sea because when the tides come in it takes the rubbish to the sea.

Fishing boats should make sure they take big bins for their rubbish and not throw their rubbish into the sea. They should bring their rubbish back with them to land.

There should be fines for people who are caught throwing their rubbish around because most of the rubbish flows to the drains when it rains and it ends up in the sea.

The rubbish which is washed to sea ends up killing the sea life. This is not good because if the sea life keep dying then the sea will no longer be a nice place for the environment.

natural made home shampoo recipe.

  1. Combine all ingredients in an old shampoo bottle or jar of some kind (pump soap dispensers and even foaming dispensers work well for this. If you use a foaming dispenser, add 1/4 cup of                                           distilled  water)
  2. Shake well to mix.
  3. Keep in shower for up to a month.
  4. Shake before each use.
  5. Use about a teaspoon every time you shampoo.
  6. If you use a foaming dispenser, it also makes a great shaving cream- just dilute with 1/4 cup distilled water!

Presentations

On Thursday all classes went around the school
to present our presentation. The first class we went to was room 1. They talked to us about survival in the bush. I liked room 1’s presentation because they taught us that in order to survive in the bush you have to take the appropriate gear to suit the conditions of being in the bush.

We went to the junior school first then we went to room ten up in the seniors. Their presentations were real good but I still didn't like their presentations because there weren't many questions.

The last class that we went to was room 7, our class
and we listened to them do their presentations. Their presentations were about the type of food to eat in the wild. I learnt that it is better to take canned food because it lasts longer. I really enjoyed their presentations.

netbook reflections.

Hi, My name is Justin I am a year 5 student at Glenbrae School and I am in Room 9. My teacher is Mr. D. Nath.

This year was an exciting year for me because I started using a chromebook  as  tool in the classroom.  I was fascinated by the thought of doing so many cool things on my chromebook but it took me some time to really start using it effectively. There were so many things to learn and tried my best to learn as much as I could from my teacher, whanau and friends.

These are my reflections on what I did. I have learnt Cyber safety, Accessing the class site, Blogging, keyboard shortcuts,  using google applications like google presentations, creating new folders and documents, using tools, taking screen shots, using Sumo paint.
I have learnt how to do searching on netbooks and to do shortcuts on the keyboards.

I have learnt  how to use a chromebook in class and do sumo paint from my big brother that goes to Tamaki College.

I have learn how to access my google drive from home or where ever there is internet connections.

I have helped my friends in class do some art on sumo paint.

I  am able to think about the topics I am going to research on and write questions, using gmail and sharing my work on the blog, read more online books, stories and articles while looking for information , deciding which sites are safe for me to access and use information from, sharing my learning on my blog and class blog.
